What You Might Not Know About Surah al-Kahf

Sharpen Your Pens. It’s Jum’ah!
I don’t know about you, but I love Fridays! The best day of the week and the day of “jumu3ah”, or congregation.
As we are heading for a very exciting second weekend ISA, and as some are already deep into their PPN reward-inducing work,
What about a second round of “sharing a special piece”?
Here’s a litte piece I wrote,
You might wanna read it note for note,
Don’t worry, Be happy!
Here it is, PPN style of course:
What you might not know about surah alKahf (surah # 18):
Narrated Al-Bara’ bin ‘Azib:
A man recited Surat-al-Kahf (in his prayer) and in the house there was a (riding) animal which got frightened and started jumping. The man finished his prayer with Taslim, but behold! A mist or a cloud hovered over him. He informed the Prophet of that and the Prophet said,
“O so-and-so! Recite, for this (mist or cloud) was a sign of peace (sakinah) descending for the recitation of Quran.”
[Bukhaari]
It was mentioned that the reciter was Usayd ibn Hudayr, one of the leaders of al-Ansaar. In another narration, it was said that the angels came down to listen to his recitation.
Lesson: The angels come down with the sakinah of Allaah when one is reciting the Qur’an. That can be in the form of a cloud. Everything happens for a reason!
Did you know that Usayd ibn Hudayr was reciting Surat al-Kahf?
alHamdu lillaah, most of us know this Hadeeth:
Illumination:
It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed al-Khduri that the Prophet said:
“Whoever reads Surat al-Kahf on Friday, he will be illuminated with light
between the two Fridays.”
[Narrated by al-Haakim; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani]
Protection:
Abu Darda’ reported Allah’s Apostle as saying:
“If anyone learns by heart the first ten verses of the Surat al-Kahf, he will be
protected from the Dajjal.”
[Muslim]
The remembrance of Allaah and the Qur’an are the food to the soul. Who
is not in need of this blessing?
Main theme of this surah: F I T N A H
1. Fitnah (trial) in your deen: The people of the cave
2. Fitnah in your wealth: The owner of the 2 gardens
3. Fitnah in your knowledge: The story of Moosa and alKhidr
4. Fitnah in your power/authority: The story of Dhul-Qarnayn
5. Protection from ALL fitnahs (found in the last ayah):
قُل إِنَّما أَنا۠ بَشَرٌ مِثلُكُم يوحىٰ إِلَىَّ أَنَّما إِلٰهُكُم إِلٰهٌ وٰحِدٌ ۖ فَمَن كانَ يَرجوا لِقاءَ رَبِّهِ فَليَعمَل عَمَلًا صٰلِحًا وَلا يُشرِك بِعِبادَةِ رَبِّهِ أَحَدًا
“…So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord – let him do
righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone.”
{Surat al-Kahf 18:110}
Oh Allaah , protect us from all fitan, forgive us our sins, and keep us steadfast. Ameen.
